Hey there! I cannot be the only one that is over this winter and all of the cold. My family and I are ready for Spring like I am sure many of you are as well. I compiled a list of 25 activities for you to do with your children when the weather is not ideal or you just want something fun to do. When I spend time with families, I always like to ask the kiddos what they like to do and so many of these activities are on here.

CREATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • Finger Painting- Let your kiddos explore all of the colors and textures.
  • DIY Playdough- Make homemade playdough and then see what you can create.
  • Build A Fort- Gather up all of those blankets and pillows in the house to make one giant fort.
  • Cardboard Creations- See what you can make out of those empty Amazon boxes.
  • Puppet Show- Socks and mittens work wonders for creative imaginations.

LEARNING ACTIVITES

  • Alphabet Scavenger Hunt- Find objects throughout your house and yard that start with each letter.
  • Cooking Together- Make meals, homemade bread or cookies from scratch.
  • Science Experiments- Dare to make a volcano?
  • Counting and Sorting- Use toys and household items to practice counting. My kids love to help match socks and we see who can get the most matches first.
  • Storytelling- Read a book or make up a story to tell each other.

OUTDOOR FUN

Backyard Obstacle Course- Use cones, chairs, and ropes to create fun challenges.

Sidewalk Chalk Art- Draw pictures, write names or play hopscotch.

Bubble Blowing- Make giant bubbles with homemade bubble mix.

Gardening- Let kids plant veggies and flowers, then take care of their plants.

Water Play- Fill a tub with water and let them play with different cups and toys.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Dance Party- Play music and dance together.

Indoor Bowling- Use plastic bottles and a soft ball.

Yoga For Kids- Teach simple yoga poses to stretch and relax.

Simon Says- A classic game that keeps kids active.

Pillow Jumping Path- Line up pillows for a fun jumping challenge.

QUIET AND SENSORY ACTIVITIES-

Sensory Bins- Fill a container with rice, pasta or beans and add small toys and objects.

Sticker Art- Provide stickers and paper for creative fun.

Sorting Colors- Use colored objects for sorting and matching.

Audiobook Time- Listen to a kid’s book together.

Mindfulness Breathing- Teach deep breathing with fun exercises like pretending to blow up a ballon.

These activities help keep kids entertained, active, learning and having fun while bonding.

One year old girl with red hair wearing a pink sweater with white bows for her one year portraits.

Central Wisconsin Cake Smash Photography- This sweet babe traveled about an hour to come celebrate her birthday in the studio. I am so glad that they did because there really is no wrong time to book your baby’s portraits.

I first met Sunny when she was in her mama’s belly. Her mama had came to the Rio studio and had her studio maternity portraits done, they were gorgeous! Then I got so lucky to see Sunny’s entire family when I had photographed (after planning the entire elopement) her parents elopement in Illinois.

Sunny was lucky enough to celebrate her birthday right around Valentine’s Day so were able to incorporate pinks and mauve colors into her session.

Like every Cake Smash session, we start off with the formal portraits, then lead into the Cake Smash and follows up with a little bath time.

Booking a motherhood photo session is an ideal way to capture memories, celebrate your pregnancy or create lasting images of your family bond. Here’s why you should consider it:

1. Timeless Memories: A professional photo session helps preserve the precious moments of motherhood, whether it’s a maternity shoot, newborn photography, or family portraits. These images become keepsakes to treasure forever.

2. Celebrate Your Journey: Documenting your motherhood experience is a powerful way to honor the changes and milestones in your life, from pregnancy to early motherhood and beyond. It’s a celebration of your strength, love, and growth as a mother.

3. Boost Self-Confidence: A maternity photographer or family photographer can help highlight your natural beauty and the strength you carry, offering you a confidence boost and helping you feel empowered during a transformative period.

4. Emotional Connection: A motherhood photo session captures the deep, emotional connections between you and your child(ren), showcasing the unconditional love and bond shared between a mother and her family.

5. Create a Family Legacy: These photos become part of your family history, telling the story of your family’s growth and love. Over time, they become an important legacy for future generations to cherish.

6. Personalized Experience: Whether you choose a studio maternity shoot, outdoor family photography, or a lifestyle session in your home, a professional photographer will tailor the session to suit your personality, preferences, and vision for your photos.

7. Reflect on Growth: A motherhood photoshoot helps you look back on the changes and growth you’ve experienced as a mother. From pregnancy photos to newborn sessions, each stage is beautifully documented.

8. Connection with Loved Ones: A family photography session often includes everyone in the family—your partner, your children, and even pets—helping to create portraits that reflect your family dynamics and connections.

In summary, a motherhood photo session is not only about beautiful images—it’s about preserving the unique and emotional moments that define the journey of motherhood. It’s a chance to create memories, boost confidence, and celebrate your family in a meaningful way.

The Joy of Capturing Baby Milestones

Milestone Sessions are a beautiful way to freeze moments in time, preserving memories of your little one as they grow. The image above perfectly encapsulates the essence of baby milestones: soft lighting, a joyful expression, and a minimalist backdrop bring focus to the child’s natural charm.

Why Milestone Photography Matters

Every parent knows that babies grow up in the blink of an eye. Milestone photography allows families to capture and celebrate important stages in their child’s life, such as crawling, sitting up, or their first birthday. These photographs beautifully showcases a baby’s milestone of sitting independently—a proud moment for any parent!

Elements of a Perfect Baby Portrait

  1. Natural Expression: Babies have an innate ability to light up a room with their smile or curious gaze. In this photo, the baby’s playful yet calm demeanor draws the viewer in. Allowing the child to remain comfortable and interact naturally ensures authentic moments like these.
  2. Neutral and Soft Backdrop: Using a clean, white or neutral background removes distractions and keeps the focus on the baby. This minimalistic approach also enhances the timelessness of the image.
  3. Soft Lighting: Gentle lighting, like the kind used here, creates a warm, cozy atmosphere while avoiding harsh shadows on delicate baby skin.
  4. Simple Wardrobe: The baby’s off-white romper complements the backdrop while adding a touch of elegance. Opting for neutral or pastel tones avoids clashing colors and creates a cohesive look.

Preserving the Precious Moments

Baby portraits like the one above are more than just pictures—they’re cherished memories frozen in time.
